RBT renewal changed in 2026. Here is what the BACB’s current handbook says.
What changed
- Before 2026: renew every year and complete an annual Recertification Competency Assessment.
- From 2026: you complete the competency assessment one last time, then move to a 2-year cycle that replaces it with 12 PDUs per cycle.
- The first deadline under the PDU system is January 2028.
Fees
- Renewal fee: $50 for the 2-year cycle.
- Late fee: $50.
- Returned payment (NSF) fee: $45.
Keep your exam knowledge fresh
Renewal does not include the exam again, but the standards you were tested on still apply to your work. Review them with the study guide or take a practice exam.
