Momentary time sampling records whether a behavior is occurring at the exact moment an interval ends.
Example
The observer checks every 5 minutes. At each check, the learner is either engaged in the activity or not, and that is recorded.

- The observer does not need to watch continuously, which makes it practical for busy settings.
- It can miss behavior that happens between checks.
- It gives an estimate of how often the behavior occurs.
Exam tip
The clue is “at the end of the interval”, the instant, not before it.
Common mistake
Marking the interval when the behavior happened at any point. Only the exact moment the interval ends counts.
